Introduction

The Annual Sonny Kim Martial Arts Showcase event has been created to:
  • honor Police Officer Sonny Kim's memory, a 6th Degree Black Belt in Shotokan Karate, and ensure that he is not forgotten
  • use it as a platform for raising awareness against violence
  • reach out to and engage in a positive way underprivileged youth
  • strengthen community and law enforcement relationships
This event is a non-profit event, with ALL proceeds going to martial arts scholarships for underprivileged kids in Officer Sonny Kim's name. There will be a special committee of several Black Belt martial artists from Cincinnati that would manage the scholarship.

The Honorary Chair of the 2016 Sonny Kim Martial Arts Tournament was Herb Perez, the 1992 Olympic Gold Medalist in Taekwondo:

This event is a Showcase of various Martial Arts styles to make the audience more familiar with them, and to inspire youth to start training in one of them as a way to learn self-discipline, teamwork, goal setting, and self-confidence.

There will be demonstrations of various aspects of Martial Arts. If you or your school would like to put on a demo, you are more than welcome! The more the merrier! We would like to have demonstrations of:

  • Breaking
  • Forms
  • Weapons
  • Self-Defense
  • Sparring, and finally,
  • Master/Grandmaster demonstrations.

If you would like to demonstrate one of these, please REGISTER here

We'll also have the famous Q-KIDZ to showcase their play about Anti-Violence.

The event is FREE and open to the public, but we would like to encourage donations, in order to establish "Sonny Kim Scholarships"

We would like to invite Marital Artists of ALL styles to participate, and to also invite others.

Most importantly, we would like to invite youth and families with young children to join us in this event to celebrate martial arts and the life of Sonny Kim! We have to stop this senseless violence!
